The G4D Open: Simon Seungmin Lee and Jennifer Sraga claim maiden victories as Kipp Popert misses out at Celtic Manor

Simon Seungmin Lee and Jennifer Sraga secured maiden victories at The G4D Open, as Kirk Popert and Daphne van Houten missed out on a historic third win at the event.

The G4D Open, staged in partnership with The R&A and the DP World Tour and supported by EDGA, was held at Celtic Manor for the first time after three previous editions at Woburn.

The Championship is one of the most inclusive ever held, with nine sport classes across multiple impairment groups and 80 players - of both amateur and professional status - battling it out.

Both the men's and women's championships provided drama to the final hole in Wales before Lee and Sräga narrowly claimed one-shot victories over the Roman Road Course.

Lee - number two on the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability (WR4GD) - secured a debut victory after posting a one-over-par 71 to finish on three over, one ahead of Cameroon's Issa Nlareb A Amang.

Nlareb A Amang had pulled within a stroke of Lee after a brilliant 40-yard chip-in for eagle at the par-four 17th with his nine-iron, but he struggled in the cold conditions throughout the final day and racked up 40 putts in his closing 73.

Defending men's champion Brendan Lawlor ignited his hopes of a third title thanks to a stunning run of birdies which took him to the turn in four-under 33 - the best front nine of the week - and into second place.

The Irishman's hopes unravelled after dropping six shots from the 12th and he had to settle for a tie for fifth place on 11-over, while other title contender Lachlan Wood was a further two shots ahead on nine over.

Sräga denied Dutchwoman van Houten a hat-trick of titles after also making a crucial par on the 18th to triumph by a stroke, having seen her title rival finish with a double bogey.

The men's gross prize winners were: Simon Seungmin Lee (Intellectual 1), Thomas Colombel (Intellectual 2), Issa Nlareb A Amang (Standing 1), Kipp Popert (Standing 2), Lachlan Wood (Standing 3), Lee York (Sitting 1), Max Togisala (Sitting 2), Kiefer Jones (Visual 2)

The women's gross prize winners were: Natasha Stasiuk (Intellectual 1), Michelle Lau (Intellectual 2), Mette Wegge Lynggaard (Standing 1), Aimi Bullock (Standing 2), Jennifer Sräga (Standing 3) Mette Havnaas (Visual 1)

Daily highlights from the Championship are available now on The R&A's YouTube channel, with highlights also set to air on Your Site Golf later this month.

Watch The Open at Royal Birkdale from July 16-19 and the AIG Women's Open from Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club from July 30-August live on Your Site. or .
